What Does Water Actually Do?

Why Water is Your Body's Best Friend

Did you know you have something in common with a tall tree and a tiny hamster? You all need water to live!

Just like a tree needs rain and a hamster needs its water bottle, your body needs water to work its best. In fact, your body is more than half water!

What Does Water Actually Do?

Water is like a super helper inside your body. It has some really important jobs:

  • Carries Energy: Your blood, which is mostly water, carries oxygen to all your cells so you can run, play, and think.

  • Fights Germs: It’s a key part of your immune system, which helps you fight off sickness.

  • Cools You Down: When you get hot, you sweat. Sweat is mostly water, and it helps keep your temperature just right.

  • Helps with Digestion: Water helps your body turn food into energy and get rid of what it doesn’t need (yep, that’s your pee and poop!).

How Much Water Do You Need?

A good rule is to drink when you're thirsty and drink even more when you're active.

Pro Tip: Bring a water bottle to sports practice or when you play outside.

Drink water beforeduring, and after you play.
